Valiant Historic Events presents
Stonehenge, Then and Now
The Exhibit
"Stonehenge...Then and Now"
involves one full sculpture of the ancient mystery in time-worn ruins as it is now, and a
second sculpture as Stonehenge was in its heyday 4000 years ago, freshly cut, unweathered,
and complete.
The carefully researched and accurate sculpture is available for exhibition in both
public and private venues. The display is an impressive 20 feet across, made up of a
sizable scale model of each Stonehenge period. We include a visual timeline,
explaining the conception, building, and purpose of Stonehenge, so guests may understand
what they're seeing.
Before Moses led the Hebrew from Egypt, and before the Pyramids were built, the
ancient wonder of Stonehenge was raised on Salisbury Plain in England. The
accurately laid-out circular megalith is made up of over 70 enormous "sarsen"
stones, 20 to 40 tons each, seabottom sandstone harder than granite, and more than 80
"bluestones" of spotted dolerite transported from Wales. Its determined
and ingenius prehistoric architects managed to raise, cut, skillfully shape, transport,
and raise the outer ring and the inner trilithons so accurately that the ring's lintels
stand 16 feet above the ground, level to within an inch even though set on uneven ground.
The Great Trilithon once stood over 24 feet above the ground, and seems to align
with the winder solstice. Other alignments suggest attention to the midsummer
sunrise, and both sun and mood activity at other times of the year.
This elegant megalithic triumph has stood, from its earliest se, for over 4000
years. In the condition we recognize it was in continual use for over 1500 years,
longer than any single manmade temple or device in history. Many stones are no
fallen or lying underground. Many others are missing. How were such enormous
monoliths moved to Salisbury Plain, and how were they taken away?
Some clues: none of this was done by Saxons, Danes, Celts, Romans, Druids,
Merlin, or aliens. Then who? How? And most delectible of all--why?
"Stonehenge...Then and Now"
can be set up, indoors or outdoors (under a tent). Locations such as lobbies,
receptions, events, weddings, parties, or special presentations. We do all the
transporting, set-up, and strike. All you need to provide is floor-space.
The exhibit can be enhanced by special recorded music, live pipers, Celtic
backdrops, banquet table centerpieces, and even a small gift shop. The sculptor, a
noted author and historian, is available for brief entertaining seminars called "Tour
of Stonehenge", discussing the sheer human skill and intellect that gave us this
grand monument during a time when there neither written words nor sophisticated stone
masonry tools were available.
There is an exhibition fee, which varies depending upon the duration of the
exhibit. "Stonehenge...Then and Now" is available on a long term basis,
with certain maintenance and security stipulations.
